William Blackwell | Contributing Writer and Photographer - “Portraits of Slidell”
The amazing historic journey and photographic art documented by “Portraits of Slidell” writer and photographer, William Blackwell, is the perfect complement to Slidell Magazine. Editor Kendra Maness has admired William’s work for years through his frequent postings in multiple Facebook pages about Slidell history. William, a native of Slidell whose family goes back hundreds of years in our community, was originally approached in 2014 to join the Slidell Mag family, but his first published photo was not until the cover of the July 2017 edition. Not too bad for a first, huh? “Portraits of Slidell” first appeared in the August 2017 edition, and was an immediate and resounding success. The public loves William! It took us three long years to get him, but boy was he worth the wait!
He started studying photography several years ago as a hobby, and it has evolved into a slow, but steadily growing, profession.
“Achieving great photography is my hope and passion. It’s what consumes me for hours each and every day,” William says. He currently does stock photography and works in several genres, including landscapes, architecture, lifestyle and event photography.
“A number of years ago, before photography became an interest to me, I had begun researching about Slidell’s early beginnings and found it to be a fascinating topic. Through my research, I gained an understanding and appreciation of Slidell’s history. Once I began studying photography, it seemed to me that some of those wonderful buildings in Olde Towne should be photographed to capture and preserve their memory, beauty, and antiquity for future generations. So that has become an ongoing project of mine. We do take those structures for granted, forgetting that they will not always be there.”
We are BIG fans of William’s photography and you will be too! See his Slidell shots and more on his facebook page: FieldofViewPhotography
